Day 8, Homer to Cooper Landing (5/21)
We started the day in Homer and drove the Sterling Hwy to Cooper Landing. Although I call it a highway, it is only a two-lane road and the only road that one can take. Once you get to most towns and get off the "highway" you will most likely be traveling on a gravel road. Most towns have two or three paved roads and the rest are gravel. After settling in at the Sourdough B&B, we took a drive on a gravel road towards Cooper Lake. |
![]() We were stopped by snow after 10 miles or so. The drive was beautiful, overlooking Kenai Lake.

We had our camera ready for moose this time, but didn’t see any. We did stop and watch little birds eating seeds or something from the gravel road. We identified them as pine siskins, redpoll, white-winged crossbill, and pine grosbeak. We saw many snowshoe hares and red squirrels. |
